Will.I.Am Puts Together One More Celeb-fest for Obama

Now that Barack Obama has won the presidency and history has been made, Will.I.Am is once again intent on bending our ears toward the latest, and we imagine the last, installment in his Obama-trilogy. The guy who brought us the ubiquitous “Yes We Can” (which actually wasn’t bad the first couple times we heard it) and “We Are the Ones,” has, on the day after Obama’s stunning victory, given us “It’s a New Day.” That’s the plan, anyway. According to The Huffington Post, Will.I.Am (one of four Black Eyed Peas) will debut his new tune on dipdive.com sometime today, and like the two before it, the song will feature celebrity testimonials. We’re guessing said testimonials will be edited over buoyant acoustic guitar, pleasant synths, a comfy beat, and (just maybe) the repetition of the words “It’s a New Day” over and over and over again.

Apparently, Mr. Am was so confident of Barack’s victory, he began putting the song together last week. (MTV provides a clip of him working in the studio.) Will.I.Am even logged some hours last night working through those testimonials, though he still found time to attend Obama’s victory rally at Chicago’s Grant Park and appear Star Wars-style for an awkward conversation with Anderson Cooper during CNN’s election coverage.

Considering the relative lack of enthusiasm his actual music has received (see Songs About Girls), we’re guessing Will.I.Am is approaching the campaign’s end with more than a touch of ambivalence.
